A
little about myself:
I've
spent most of my life with horses (and
many other critters!). My love of horses began very early and I never
seemed to really outgrow that love. I have also always loved art and
reading. If I wasn't riding, I was reading or drawing. I'll include a
photo of a pastel piece I did when I was 13. My mediums of choice
growing up were pastels, pencils/charcoal, watercolors and acrylic
paints. Oil
paints were off limits, as I was also a natural born klutz!

In 1984,
I moved from Illinois to Arizona (Phoenix area) to be with my hunny,
leaving my
beloved mare behind. Hubby always promised that someday we would buy
acreage and I could once again own a horse. In 2002, we relocated to
the White Mountains of Arizona and purchased that land. 19 years
later.....FINALLY! Below is a picture of me and my
son, Charlie, on Nocona. Nocona is a partbred (Mustang/Arab/QH)
gelding. He was bred on a nearby Native American Reservation. I hear
tell that the free range bred horses have an Arabian stallion
introduced to the herds.
During
that long agonizing time of being without a horse, I concentrated on my
art and collecting and showing Breyer Horse models, with a few
Hagen-Renakers here and there. Seeing all the gorgeous and unaffordable
customs (r/r/h way back when!), I decided to try my hand at painting a
model horse. I still have the first one that came out half way decent,
done in 1991. It is a portrait model of Kid's horse Katie on The
Young Riders.
And
the
rest is history. I was hooked. I enjoy customizing immensely and learn
a new trick or technique almost daily. Most of my horses are done in
acrylics with a professional quality airbrush. I also do hand painted
details (eyes, hooves, nostrils) and an occasional totally hand painted
horse. I am dabbling in the art of pastel painting but not finding
enough time to really concentrate practicing.
I have many interests and hobbies. Click the
highlighted words to read about some of these obsessions! I love the Monkees
(Micky and Peter have always been my favorites); crafts
including crocheting with a variety of yarns, sewing barbie doll
clothes and soft-sculpture dolls like bears and bunnies, and beadwork; gardening
of which I am slowly learning (I'd like to add a rose bush and some
climbing vines this year); animals of all types (rabbits, guinea pigs,
dogs, chickens);
penpalling and reading.
